Some days you just don’t feel like your best self and want to feel better. This is perfectly normal. You don’t have to feel your best all the time but you definitely shouldn’t give up and remain in the rut forever. Today we will give some practical tips on how to get out of a rut.
1. Drag Yourself Out of Bed
When you’re feeling down it’s easy to stay in bed, crying your heart’s out or sleep all day long. While it can initially help, it’s not good for you in the long term. Let’s be honest, when you accomplish nothing throughout the day, you would feel even worse. That’s why you must drag yourself out of bed and get your body moving even if you don’t feel like it.
2. Dress Like Your Best Self
Whether you like it or not, your physical state reflects your inner state and vice versa. Another thing people do when they’re at their lowest point is to neglect their physical appearance. This is another big no-no. Even if you feel awful, you should still take care of your appearance. Wash your hair and body, do your makeup, even something as simple as lipstick and mascara. Spray some perfume, get your nails done and dress like your best self. You will be surprised by how much you feel better after doing this.
3. Clean Your Room
It’s easy to neglect your surrounding when you are in a rut. However, a messy environment would make you feel even worse. The clutter would just put more stress on your mind. Instead of letting things loose, it’s best to clean your room and house as well as some decluttering. Once you are done, you will notice some burden being lifted off your shoulders.
4. Get Some Sunshine and Nature
There’s this idea that nature heals and it’s accurate. There are many benefits of being in nature and one of them is improve your mood. Getting a moderate amount of sunshine, breathing fresh air and being in nature whether it’s the beach, mountain or forest would instantly improve your mood. If you can’t go to these places, even going for a walk in a green neighborhood or to a park with lots of trees would still do the job.
5. Do Something Meaningful
Often time, people prefer to do nothing when they are in a rut but this could make you feel even worse. As we mentioned, humans need a sense of accomplishment in life in order to thrive. We are not meant to do nothing for a prolonged period of time. That’s why it’s best to use your free time, not just to rest but also to do something meaningful to you. It could be anything from working on your side hustle, hobbies or personal projects to doing charity and volunteering.
6. Eat Healthy
What you eat would greatly affect your body and mind. If you keep on eating junk foods high in sugar, salt and unhealthy fat, it would fry your brain and make you feel and look horrible. A lot of junk foods would give you depression and illnesses so eating healthy is always the best options. Healthy meals consist of lean protein, green leaves and root vegetables, whole grains, beans and lentils as well as fresh fruits. Learn to cook! You need to know how to prepare your own meal so you could take control of what you eat.
7. Journal
The fastest, safest and healthiest way to vent your emotions is by journaling. When you write down your thoughts and feelings, you are basically doing self-therapy. It would help you to figure out what exactly is the cause and solution of your problems.
Those were some ways you can get out of a rut. Remember to take it one step at a time. Life is long and you’ll be okay.
