Amazing Benefits of Wearing Silk

We don’t throw the word ‘obsessed’ that often, but if there’s one fabric we are obsessed with, it has to be silk. We incorporate them a lot in our lifestyle. From our pillowcase to our clothes. We love silk. There are a lot of amazing benefits of wearing silk you will enjoy.

Finding Quality Silk

Now, before we get on the benefits, we will talk about the silk quality first. Some people like to mix in the word satin and silk together but they are two completely different thing. Satin is a synthetic material and they do not provide the same benefits as silk does.

You want to make sure that you are only using 100% mulberry silk to reap the most benefit.

Silks are graded with numbers and the highest grade for silk is 6A.

Silk is measured in momme and the most common momme sold in silk pillowcase and clothing products is 22 momme. Somewhere between 19-30 momme is your best choice.

The higher the momme, the better quality and more expensive it is.

Benefits of Silk

1. Cools You Down

Silk is a naturally cool fabric that will cool you down, literally. It’s also breathable and allow your skin to breath. Based on our experience, it also absorbs the cool temperature and maintain it for longer, creating a longer cool sensation even after your AC is off.

2. Reduce Wrinkles

Silk is a soft fabric that will not tug on your skin as you sleep, thus preventing the appearance of wrinkles. It also helps to retain the moisture of your skin, giving you a nice glow and hydrated sensation after you wake up. It’s extremely gentle that even if you rub it all of your skin, you won’t get a wrinkle.

3. Prevent Hair Breakage

Silk retains moisture of your hair as well so your hair won’t be all dried out and frizzy when you wake up. It prevents hair breakage as it reduces friction that causes split ends. We can definitely testify for this. Our hair used to be so dry and frizzy when we wake up but once we make the switch to silk, there’s barely any hair breakage in the morning.

4. Sensitive Skin Friendly

Silk is hypo-allergenic and it’s good for those with sensitive skin. Silk is smooth and gentle to the touch so it wouldn’t cause any irritation when you’re using it. The pleasant softness is also another factor why it’s worth getting silk as an investment.

5. Improve Sleep

Your bedding is one of the reason why you might not have the best sleep at night. We have the best sleep after we switch into using silk pillowcase because it’s soft, cooling and non-irritating. Bed time has never felt better.

How to Care for Your Silk

Caring for silk may require a bit more effort than other fabrics, but it’s still easy.

Wash your silk in cold water. Use delicate wash specifically made for silk and delicate fabrics.

Do not soak for more than five minutes.

Do not dry or expose silk in direct sunlight. Instead, let it air dry on it’s own.

For smaller silk pieces and pillowcase, you can lay down a piece of towel fold it gently to get rid of excess water.

Steam your silk instead of ironing it.

Store your silk in a dry clean place.

Voila, you’re done!

Those were some amazing benefits of wearing silk.

Silk is an amazing fabric and we would highly recommend you to incorporate them more into your beauty and fashion routine.
