10 Ways to Have Healthy Hair

Having healthy hair is the dream of many women. Some people are lucky enough to be born with naturally healthy, thick hair while others may have to work harder to achieve their dream hair. The good news is, there are many ways to have healthy hair you can do. These tips don’t cost a lot and will make you feel more proud and satisfied with your hair.

Let’s find out what they are

1. Wash Hair According to Hair Type

Each woman have different hair types and it’s important that you are washing your hair according to it. Some will say you need to wash your hair less frequently. However, this highly depend on the environment you’re at.

If you’re living somewhere hot and humid or have naturally thin and fine hair, you want to wash your hair more frequently. At least once every two days. However, if you have curly hair type or thicker hair and live somewhere dry and cold, you can wash your hair less frequently.

2. Use The Right Shampoo & Conditioner

Similar to the previous point, you need to consider what kind of shampoo and conditioner you are using. If your hair is normal, you can use regular shampoo. When you have used lots of products, you may want to use clarifying shampoo at least once a week. If you want to grow thicker hair, you may want to use shampoo that contains biotin.

If you have dry and frizzy hair, use a moisturizing shampoo.  Want to get rid of dandruff? You can use a purifying shampoo. How about extra volume? Use volumizing shampoo. Have color-treated hair? Use color treated shampoo. Same with conditioner. Find out what works best for your hair and use the right ones.

3. Use Leave in Conditioner & Hair Mask

Now leave in conditioner and hair mask is a great addition to your haircare routine. Depending on the type you choose, they can help to reduce frizzy hair, moisturize and control the oil on your scalp. Most will leave your hair feeling hydrated and might reverse damage from heat and styling tools. You will notice your hair become a lot smooth and shinier after you are done with it.

You can use hair mask and leave in conditioner once or twice a week depending on your hair condition.

4. Brush Gently with The Right Brush Type

Not all hairbrushes are created equal. Some will do more damage to your hair while others will help your hair to be healthier. Generally, you should have a detangler brush for everyday use. Then, you need to use wide tooth comb or wet hairbrush for when your hair is wet. If you have straight hair, a paddle brush is great for you. Then there are also brushes for hair styling, but you don’t need them for everyday

Make sure you brush your hair gently from the bottom / end and then make your way up. Never brush your hair from the scalp first as it may cause damage if you have any tangle in your hair.

5. Use Hair Oil

This one may sound counter-intuitive. Most people would not want oil to be anywhere around their hair. However, applying hair oil can be beneficial for your hair. The key is to put on the right kind of oil and the right amount of it.

If you want to grow your hair, use castor or black castor oil exclusively on your scalp. If you want to fix dry, damaged hair, try argan oil at the very end. You can also use almond, grapeseed, jojoba and coconut oil on your hair. Use hair oil mostly at the end of your hair as it is the part that has been around the longest.

6. Use Less Heat

Most of us already know this but heat really damages your hair. It’s important that you’re using heat protective product before you put any heat on your hair. Reduce the frequency of heat on it as well. You can let your hair dry naturally instead of using a blow dryer. If you do need to use a blow dryer, set it to the coolest setting you have.

Curl your hair with a roller or a braid instead of an iron curler when you have the time. Do what you can to reduce the amount of heat you put on your hair and you’ll see it becoming better overtime.

7. Take Vitamin D

You may hear some people recommending biotin for hair growth. However, did you know that vitamin D also has a huge impact on your hair growth? Vitamin D stimulates new and old hair follicles. Most people who suffer from vitamin D deficiency would most likely suffer from hair loss as well.

Since prolonged sun exposure can cause damage to your skin, we recommend you to take your vitamin D through foods like cod liver oil, salmon, mushroom and fortified food. You can also get your vitamin D from supplement as well. We recommend taking at least vitamin D3 supplement with 1000IU. We personally take 5000IU daily but if you’re suffering from extreme vitamin D deficiency, you can take 10.000IU for a while then switch to 5000IU when you’re better.

8. Avoid Too Much Sunlight

Too much exposure to the sun can bleach your hair and cause it to become dry, frizzy and damaged. Avoid being under the sun for a prolonged period of time and wear hat to protect your hair from the heat.

9. Use Protective Hairstyle

Protective hairstyle such as braid can help your hair to remain protected from the elements. It will maintain moisture and keep you looking stylish at the same time. You can use protective hairstyle when you’re sleeping or when you are going out to keep your hair looking healthy by the end of the day.

10. Cut Off Split Ends

Nothing is more unattractive for your hair than having lots of split hair around. The thing about split ends is that they don’t just exist at the end of your hair, but sometimes throughout the length of your hair as well. Make sure you are cutting them at least once a month so your hair can remain healthy looking.
